Name: Gem and Mineral Society Display at Library
Date: October 22, 2016
Time: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM CDT
Event Description:
MIDLAND, TX – The Midland Gem and Mineral Society is beginning to plan for its annual showcase, and recently launched a new display at the Centennial Library in Midland, TX. The display fills three of the library’s display cases, and includes a handmade blue lapis domino set among the many beautiful items.

To build interest and awareness in the annual show, being held this year for the first time at the Ector County Coliseum, the Gem and Mineral Society has planned a series of events at the Centennial Library on upcoming Saturdays. Several grinding wheels will be set up, and members will be demonstrating the process of polishing rocks that takes them from their raw natural state to the precious and semiprecious stones that are commonly used in jewelry. Rocks and gems that can be touched and handled will be on display, as well as a variety of educational materials and books that can be checked out from the library.

In their first weekend of activities on September 24th the group reached over 400 local residents, and plans to continue these educational afternoons at the Centennial Library on Oct 8 and Oct 22 from approximately noon to 4pm.
