Arts Council Of Midland Hosts Premier Art Exhibit
ACM Quarterly Exhibit 'Visions: 2019' features Ben Woitena's Stone & Wood, Cast Bronze Sculptures and Mixed Media Drawings
On Friday, March 29th, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Arts Council of Midland will present the next of its Quarterly Exhibitions series entitled 'Visions: 2019' with a reception at 1506 West Illinois Avenue in Midland, Texas, featuring the masterful works of Houston-area sculptor, Ben Woitena. The exhibit entitled 'Ben Woitena: Nature Of The Sublime' features many of Woitena's stone & wood sculptures, cast bronze sculptures and also mixed media drawings from his own personal colleciton. Mr. Woitena will speak at 6:15 p.m., and refreshments will be served. The reception is free and open to the public.
Ben Woitena was born in San Antonio, Texas, and received his B.F.A. from the University of Texas in Austin and his M.F.A. from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He was a faculty member at the Glassell School of Art in Houston from 1971 to 1998. His work was featured in several film and television documentaries, including 'Sculpture on the Green' by KUHT in Houston. His work has been commissioned for parks and public spaces in Massachusetts, Houston, Texas City and at the Bush Intercontinental Airport- Terminal E.
Woitena's work is featured in many private collections and institutes, including our own FMH Foundation Sculpture Garden located at Arts Council of Midland headquarters, as well as other collections such as the Museum of Fine Art in Houston, The San Antonio Museum of Art, Museum of the Southeast in Beaumont, and many other museums and collections aroung the nation.
