Markel, Senior Underwriter Technology, Cyber and E&O


Beth Keen is a senior underwriter for Markel Specialty’s Information Technology, Cyber and Miscellaneous Errors & Omissions Liability division.  Within her role, Beth cultivates direct Markel market partner relationships placing complex primary and excess programs. 
 
After graduating from the University of Illinois Urbana – Champaign, Beth has cultivated 20+ years of experience within the insurance industry.  Her experience includes not just underwriting, but also roles within carrier business development and professional lines wholesale brokerage. 
 
 
Joe Niemczyk
Markel, Senior Counsel, Global Cyber Risk and Privacy Liability

In his role as Senior Counsel with Markel’s Global Cyber Risk and Privacy Liability unit, Joe is responsible for the administration of cyber risk claims for a wide spectrum of industries and product lines, while also being a point of contact for cyber risk management, breach response, thought leadership and claim advocacy. Joe has spoken on various topics including cyber liability claims trends, the impact on third-party relationships following a cyber event and the psychology behind social engineering schemes.
Prior to joining Markel, Joe practiced law as an insurance defense attorney and subsequently began handling insurance claims, with an emphasis on Miscellaneous E&O/Professional Liability matters including lawyers and insurance agents and brokers’ liability. Joe obtained his Juris Doctor from New York Law School and is a member of the New York State Bar.
 
Mitchell Gootnick
Markel, Senior Claims Examiner

 
Mitchell Gootnick is a senior claims examiner for Markel’s global cyber risk and privacy liability unit. In his role, Mitchell handles claims arising from various cyber events including ransomware, business e-mail compromise, and social engineering schemes.
 
Prior to joining Markel, he was a claims analyst with a focus on professional liability claims at another insurance carrier. Mitchell also has experience in the administration and evaluation of auto, construction, and customized travel insurance claims. Mitchell received his under-graduate degree in Legal Studies and Business from Hofstra University.
 
 
Katrina Slovak
Markel, VP SW Risk

 
Katrina has 39 years of insurance experience.  She started her career with Texas Employers Insurance, working in National General Agency.  She then worked at Swett & Crawford for 15 years as Vice President Casualty Broker.  She joined CRC Insurance Services as a Vice President Casualty Broker in 2005 and stayed for another 15 years.  She has been at Southwest Risk for the last year and a half as a Vice President Casualty Broker.  She has extensive experience in all industry types but a specialist in Oil & Gas, Construction, and Cyber-related clients.
 
 
Teresa Cain, CRM, CIC
Cain Insurance Solutions, Owner


Teresa is originally from McGregor Texas, just outside of Waco. She attended Baylor University, where she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with dual majors in Insurance and Information Management Systems. Teresa is well known for her industry expertise and her creative approach to solving problems. Her clients appreciate her willingness to help and she genuinely cares for those she serves. Teresa is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) as well as a Certified Risk Manager (CRM) and she teaches insurance principles to local business and nonprofit leaders upon request. She has more than 30 hours of training in JUST Cyber Liability and Cyber Security and as a Risk Manager & Insurance Consultant, can offer much more than just an insurance policy, but a solution to client’s problems. 


Her work experience includes 20+ years of experience in leadership with industry-leading firms such as The InWest Group and Mims & Smith Insurance Agency. In June of 2015, Teresa decided to start her own firm, Cain Insurance Solutions. Cain Insurance Solutions specializes in meeting the insurance and risk management needs of, businesses, nonprofits, churches, private schools, professionals, contractors and oil & gas producers/service companies.

In addition to Teresa’s professional accomplishments, she is also profoundly involved in the community alongside her husband of 20+ years, Paul and their two daughters, Savannah and Abbey. Teresa is a dedicated volunteer having served multiple organizations including Midland Shared Spaces, Camp Fire of West Texas, The Junior League of Midland, Bynum School, MARC, Inc., Trinity School of Midland, Midland Classical Academy, and The NonProfit Management Center to name a few.
