We are pleased to provide nonprofit leaders, community leaders, and beyond, a workshop that promotes a better understanding of someone living at the poverty level through a unique and interactive experience, and give insight into the important issue of poverty in our communities. The poverty simulation is designed so that participants explore the realities of living in extreme poverty through a range of scenarios while trying to access food, shelter and other basic needs with a limited income. Trained volunteers act as business members, employers, educators, law enforcement, service providers, and government employees as participants go through the simulation. This unique experience gives participants a glimpse of what life is like with limited financial resources and an abundance of stress in a one-month period. The takeaways of this experience are different for everyone; however, it is our hope is that this simulation will challenge perceptions, strengthen understanding and empathy towards low income families, and inspire action to make a difference. |
