Name: Tenth annual Blue Ribbon Run the Race to End Child Abuse
Date: April 14, 2018
Event Description:
On April 14, Midland County Child Welfare Board will celebrate the tenth anniversary of its Blue Ribbon Run: The Race to End Child Abuse, presented by Impact! Chemical Technologies, Inc. & FloCap Injection Services. The event began in 2009 as a Girl Scout Gold Award project by local scouts, Claire Nelson and Jayme Shrauner. The Gold Award is the highest award in Girl Scouting. In 2010, MCCWB took over planning the event and today it is the biggest annual fundraiser for the organization.

Diane Flanagan, Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest CEO said, “When most people think of Girl Scouts, they likely think of ‘cookies and camping’—all important components of the Girl Scout experience, of course! But arguably the most impactful part of Girl Scouting is the earning of the Girl Scout Gold Award. We are so proud to see the success of the Blue Ribbon Run and we hope this project is just one of the many of Gold Award projects that may inspire our girls to reach for the gold.”

MCCWB is an all-volunteer run, 501(c)3 non-profit organization and all proceeds directly benefit foster children from Midland. Board Chairman Shelly Worrell says, “We provide vital resources foster children need as well as extras most families take for granted such as summer camps, class rings, and birthday gifts.”

As part of the Girl Scout partnership for the tenth anniversary, all runners will receive a box of Girl Scout cookies. Participants can run or walk the 1K, 5K, or both. More information and online registration is available at www.midlandchildwelfare.com. Non-runners can donate via the “Sleep-In-Supporter” option at online registration.
