    Job Summary

    Responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring student well-being initiatives. Responsibilities include providing intramural sports events, development of programs focusing on areas such as: alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, mental health, nutrition, general health, sexual health, and sexual violence prevention. These programs should create awareness, promote motivation, and provide tools for students that help them adapt and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

    Other responsibilities include creating and implementing preventative resiliency and mental health education focusing on stress reduction, managing new and changing relationships, succeeding in a challenging academic environment, and other transitional student development issues. Additionally, this position will provide some direct support and intervention for students learning to manage these and similar issues.

    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Recreation, Health, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Health Promotions or related field

    Minimum of one year of experience working in a sports or health setting

    Computer literacy including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

    Basic knowledge of various sports equipment, rules, and field set up

    Strong organization, planning, and communication skills both written and oral

    Demonstrated ability to coordinate and facilitate student well-being initiatives

    Demonstrated organizational and managerial experience

    Proven ability to motivate target populations

    Demonstrated ability to build and maintain rapport with students, staff, faculty, and community agencies

    Interpersonal skills with a demonstrated record of successful work with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels both inside and outside a higher education setting

    Exceptional time management skills and the ability to prioritize duties when faced with interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload

    Ability to exercise initiative and work independently

    Track, collect, and synthesize data in spreadsheets and report formats

    Use tact and diplomacy and maintain a high level of confidentiality

    Present and lead trainings or workshops for students and professional staff

    Strong commitment to teamwork and student support

    Ability to learn and interpret Midland College policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws for compliance

    Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

    Preferred Qualifications

    Master’s Degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Recreation, Health, Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, Health Promotions, or related field

    Experience working with campus recreation, intramural sports, and/or health and wellness

    Essential Functions

    Coordinate health and wellness, intramural sports, and prevention programs for the department of Student Life and maintain compliance with state laws and College policies and procedures

    Schedule, develop, implement, deliver and assess health and wellness outreach and prevention programs to the Midland College student body in the areas including, but not limited to: mental health, substance abuse, sexual health, sexual assault prevention, and overall wellness. Target areas to include, but not limited to health screening, smoking cessation, STI’s and HIV/AIDS prevention, communicable diseases, blood drives, alcohol and drug abuse awareness, sleep deprivation, stress management, healthy relationships, anxiety, depression and suicide prevention

    Develop and implement evaluation tools to assess programs. Develop program reports, participant evaluations, statistical data, and other relevant information to make recommendations on scope, size, and nature of future programs

    Conduct educational programs on health and wellness issues for student groups such as residence hall students, commuters, athletic teams, clubs and organizations

    Collaborate with various campus departments on health and wellness promotions, such as, but not limited to: Athletics, Student Life, Residence Life, ADAC, Title IX, and Midland College Police. Additionally, collaborate with various off-campus community partners such as, but not limited to: blood donor partners, HIV/AIDS prevention organizations, sexual assault/domestic violence centers & shelters

    Be the main point of contact for the student body for any questions, referrals or concerns regarding health and wellness and our efforts for compliance

    Use a wide range of accessible media including educational technologies, electronic and web-based programs and social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) to create, develop and promote student participation in health education and promotion programs

    Utilize relevant research and evidence-based practices for creating positive individual and environmental outcomes for students as well as developing student learning outcomes for the programs developed

    Develop and implement student and professional staff training resources on related topics

    Keep current with practices and trends in health education

    Recruit, train and supervise staff as needed (game officials, referees, work study students, part-time staff, etc.)

    Supervise, oversee, and maintain game room and equipment daily

    Plan, schedule, and supervise events for intramural sports

    Provide equipment and set up fields for scheduled events

    Accompany teams to all extramural competitions

    Communicate with campus clubs, organizations, and departments to plan activities, events, and coordinate use of facilities

    Develop a public relations plan to promote intramural sports and health and wellness

    Produce a monthly newsletter for the Student Life Department to include: intramural sports, health and wellness, campus housing and student activities for all events, programs and activities

    Purchase and maintain equipment and supplies for intramural sports and health and wellness

    Fiscal management of budget

    Other duties as assigned

    Physical Demands

    Required to set up and take down equipment for activities

    Ability to move or lift up to 50 pounds

    Ability to sit or stand for a long period of time

    Use of manual dexterity

    Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

    Must be able to work extended/flexible hours during periods of registration, intramural activities, health and wellness activities, athletic sporting events, and at Midland College or community events

    Socially and physically involved environment

    Work performed indoors and outdoors at Midland College and community events

    Work both on campus and off campus

    Will be working directly with students, faculty, and staff

    Travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town may be required

    Min Salary 2,979.17 per month
    Max Salary 3,083.33 per month
    Pay Statement Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
