    Job Summary

    The VPIS is responsible for all aspects of the college in the President’s absence, as well as the responsibilities for all aspects of the instructional programs at Midland College. Midland College’s four major instructional areas are technical baccalaureate, associate level transfer and technical, developmental, and non-credit continuing education, and Learning Resource Center.

    Required Qualifications

    Must have an earned doctorate from an accredited institution

    Minimum of seven* years of relevant experience in college administration

    *Years of relevant community college experience may substituted for college administration experience

    Instructional administration experience

    Knowledge of general office equipment including computer, email, fax, copier, and telephone system

    Effectively manage time and priorities in order to meet established deadlines

    Work and communicate effectively with all levels of co-workers and other external contacts

    Detail oriented and highly organized

    Ability to manage several departments

    Familiarity with college organizational structure and processes

    Familiar with policy formation and implementation

    Familiar with state, federal and national standards and guidelines for college administration

    Strong communication, presentation and leadership skills

    Work in a team environment with multiple, sometimes changing priorities

    Must possess a valid Texas Driver License, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

    Preferred Qualifications

    Community College administrative experience

    Essential Functions

    Assist the President in the administration of the College and at times serving as acting Chief Executive Officer in the absence of the President

    Oversee and ensure the effectiveness of the instructional programs in technical baccalaureate, associate level transfer and technical, non-credit, developmental, and non-credit continuing education

    Recommend and monitor the budgets for all areas of responsibility

    Supervise the recruitment, selection, evaluation, and employment of full-time employees in Instructional Services

    Monitor and evaluate professional development activities for staff development of all personnel in Instructional Services

    Serving on Administrative Council

    Coordinate in-service calendar, schedule grant review calendar bi-annually, College academic calendar, and graduation ceremony

    Implement long-range planning procedures in the instructional program and support areas

    Coordinate instructional goals with business and student services goals to accomplish the overall mission of the College

    Represent the College at meetings designated by the President

    Promote the College vision and comprehensive community college concept to students, faculty, staff, and the community

    Perform other duties as assigned by the President

    Physical Demands

    Able to sit or stand for long periods of time

    Ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds

    Ability to work extended hours as needed

    Use of manual dexterity

    Heavy computer usage

    College/general office setting

    Duties indoors and some outdoors

    Attendance at Midland College or community events may be required

    Travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
