District offering three pathways to fit educational needs
Midland ISD is pleased to announce the launch of our Summer Education Programs. These programs will offer customized support for students and parents as they navigate the summer months and prepare for the school in the fall. All of these options involve at-home, or virtual learning, to maintain distancing in accordance with health guidelines. Information on all these options can be found at midlandisd.net/summer2020.
PATHWAY 1: SUMMER CAMPS
Our first pathway is a series of Summer Camps. Summer camps are an opportunity for interested students to focus on a specific topic of their choice. The camps are grouped by topic and age range. The camps will run for one week only, from June 8-11 from 8:30-10am each day. All students are eligible to participate, but space is limited, so you must apply online, using the form at midlandisd.net/summer2020. All applications must be received by Friday, May 29.
PATHWAY 2: SUMMER RESOURCES
Our second pathway is Summer Resources. These are high-quality instructional resources provided on behalf of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) that allow students to continue learning throughout the summer. These activities will not be graded and are not required. Google Classroom support from teachers will not be available during the summer for Pathway 2. Online resources will be available June 8. Paper packets, if ordered by the home campus should arrive to students' home addresses in early June.
PATHWAY 3: SUMMER SUPPORT
Our third pathway might be thought of as "traditional summer school." This pathway is for 2nd-8th grade students who received less than a 70 in reading or math, or high school students who failed a core course. While participation is not mandatory, it is highly recommended for all students to be considered ready for the next grade level or course. Failure to attend could require 9-12th grade students to retake courses in the fall, which would include taking the End-Of-Course (EOC) exam. Students recommended to take these courses will be contacted by their campus. The Summer Support runs from June 8-25.
