Midland, Texas (Sept. 6, 2017) -   If you are like us, you get a little jealous of all those fun summer camps and activities for kids! That’s why Sibley Nature Center is pleased to announce a discovery camp just for grown-ups! Over three, three-hour sessions, adults can explore the world of arthropods with Michael W. Nickell, Sibley’s museum scientist and naturalist.
The arthropods are the most numerous and diverse of animal groups that includes insects, spiders, and their kin. “Arthropod Adventure for Adults” is a three Saturday introductory lab and field experience. Sessions are Sat., Sept. 23, 9 a.m. to Noon, Sat., Sept. 30, 9 a.m. to Noon, and Sat., Oct. 7, 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Topics will include insect/human relations; the unique insect body and how it works; insect behavior and ecology; and the relation of the arthropod groups to each other.  Each day, a field session will focus on a detailed investigation of a single, smaller group such as dragonflies, butterflies, beetles, grasshoppers, spiders, etc. The last session’s study will focus on nocturnal insects.  No insects or any other type of arthropod will be harmed or permanently collected in these sessions.
